World of Warcraft holds a Guinness world record for the most popular MMORPG, or massively multiplayer online role-playing game, by subscribers and is the highest grossing video game of all time. But what makes this game so great? We will be reviewing the graphics, game-play, and the story involved.
A game isn't all about the graphics, these are just a perk within the game. Wow has many variables when it comes to graphics. The character graphics are fairly basic in comparison to most these days. Enough detail but not much realism involved.
Though with the lack of realism they compensated with a load of creativity. Ranging from their character models to the environment, you will experience a whole new world. Speaking of worlds, the environmental graphics are about the same as that of the character graphics. I know, so far you hear average, average, average...but from the particles you fire to the connection among others, it takes a lot to keep this game running! So cut them some slack, they do this for you. Graphics? Flat 6. With as much as they have going on in front of you, they really try.
Next we will shoot for the story line. If you are willing to read or sit through the cinematics then you will love the story! Known, actually, for the fantastic lore behind it all, World of Warcraft has kept players wrapped up in it for years just to see what happens next. But the issue is, Blizzard, the company behind World of Warcraft, isn't really keeping up with the times. Let's face it, society has gotten lazy. We're ready to get into the action and play it out. You are given the skip option but if you do this, you're missing out on the whole story. There is, however, a lot of depth to it if you're willing to be patient, wait, and watch. Story-line? 9.2 and only because you must watch the cinematics to understand what's going on. Not much is explained externally.
For the final rating we discuss the game-play. The game-play is above par with that of it's competitors. With a cleaner interface, you find ease in your actions. Though the tasks get repetitive, the social aspects of this game increase the enjoyment by 2.5 points. Online games have this advantage. They pull you in with not only the enjoyment of the game, but having a group of people to be with throughout it. Everything you do includes pieces of the story that you're watching and this makes it a perfect example of a great MMORPG. 8.7 on gameplay.
To sum it up, all around great game. Most games have at least one quality below a 4 but WoW has kept it all about the middle line.
Final Rating- Almost wiped clean! 8
